Just as individuals have different motivations for participating in sports, there are also different factors that make athletes quit sports, and identifying these factors is important. The present study was based on an interpretive research paradigm, in terms of applied purpose, qualitative research approach, data collection method in the form of in-depth and semi-structured interviews, and research strategy, using data-driven theory. The statistical population of this study included athletes in Hamadan province, sports professors at Hamadan universities, and managers of the General Directorate of Sports and Youth and affiliated sports boards of Hamadan province, 19 of whom were selected through non-probability sampling and judgmental method. The tool of this study was a semi-structured interview that continued until the theoretical saturation stage. For validity and reliability in the present research method, the reliability, generalizability, and dependability methods were used. To analyze the data, MaxQuda software was used for open, axial, and selective coding and the systematic qualitative approach of Strauss and Corbin (1989). Based on the research results, 94 initial conceptual propositions with 23 main categories were identified in the form of six dimensions of the paradigm model including causal conditions (4 main concepts), contextual factors (5 main concepts), intervening factors (5 main concepts), strategies (6 main concepts), and consequences (3 main concepts). Finally, it is suggested that sports managers consider the identified factors in order to encourage athletes to quit sports and thereby reduce the number of athletes quitting sports to the lowest possible level.
